Electrical Safety Overview

Summary of Legislation followed by Greenlite as part of our Electrical safety inspection and checks

  1. Ensure all persons working on or near electrical equipment are competent, to prevent danger and injury
  2. Maintain electrical systems in safe condition
  3. Carry out electrical work safely
  4. Ensure equipment is suitable and safe to use in terms:-
    1. of strength and capability
    2. of use in adverse or hazardous environments e.g. weather, dirt, dust, gases, mechanical hazards, flammable atmospheres, etc
  5. Ensure effective insulation of conductors in a system
  6. Ensure effective earthing of the system
  7. Ensure that if work is carried out to the earth which involves breaking the flow of current, other precautions are taken to maintain the earth continuity
  8. Ensure all components of the electrical system are suitable and safe for use
  9. Protect against an overload of the system
  10. Provide suitable means for cutting off the supply of electrical energy to any electrical equipment and isolating electrical equipment
  11. Ensure that equipment cannot be electrically charged during work if it will create danger
  12. Do not carry out work on or near a live conductor unless absolutely essential and suitable precautions are taken to prevent injury
  13. Ensure adequate working space, access and lighting is provided to all electrical equipment where work is undertaken
